Interviewing Harry Moseley, CIO of Zoom, was a delight! His impressive career trajectory coupled with great human insights on managing career, change, scale and disruption made for excellent topics of conversation. Quite the raconteur, but what less would you expect from a Dubliner and Trinity College graduate.
When asked about the reason for Zoom’s resounding success his simple response that “video is the new voice” and “I don’t want to hear the answer I want to see the answer” resonated well with members. Zoom should not be considered as a threat to existing event business, rather as an opportunity to focus on core objectives and outsource the technology to Zoom. Their vision is to empower people to accomplish more by connecting seamlessly.
Top takeaways from the session:
- Never underestimate the power of networking; have your own personal board of directors to discuss issues and opportunities; and finally ensure you have fun on the job.
- Having a different technology architecture, working on the edge with distributed data centres, and a network of partners meant Zoom could achieve hypergrowth while still keeping an excellent customer experience.
- When a CEO can keep the focus of a company, it can even manage to pivot the entire tech organisation of a company in 90 days.
- We don’t need to travel so much and we are not here forever so embrace those dear to you.
Here is a the recording of the session for those who missed it.
