Silent Auction & Entertainment
A Silent Auction is a unique and engaging way to raise funds at charity events like balls. During the event, a variety of items or experiences are displayed, each with a bid sheet next to it. Guests can browse the items and write down their bids on the sheets, typically without speaking to others about it.
The auction remains “silent” as participants bid at their own pace. Throughout the event, they can check back and place higher bids if desired. At the end of the auction, the highest bid for each item wins, and the items are awarded to those bidders. All proceeds from the auction go directly to supporting the charitable causes, making it an exciting and impactful part of the event.

Three of her four children live all over the world in Portland, OR, San Diego, and Sydney, and Sam, her husband and their youngest son, now live in Madrid, Spain, the 16th country she has lived in.
She is a pet lover, and her golden retriever Khaya, which means Home in Swahili, pays homage to the years she spent living in Africa as a child. She believes that an individual’s identity springs more from who you are rather than where you are from. She prefers to ask someone where they grew up rather than where they are from. She describes home as an amalgamation of places, things, and people she loves. Her life experience allows her to support fellow global families by sharing snippets of her life story in her blog, which she is currently adapting into her first book, a memoir called “Wandering Identity – Beneath A Borrowed Sky.”
It will be published sometime towards the end of 2025. She gives talks on the meaning of home and what it’s like to grow up across borders in international communities and schools.
Many SIBN members are Third Culture Kids (TCKs) who rely on associations like SIBN to help them feel at home while abroad. Terry Bradley: Renowned Irish Artist
Terry Bradley, born in Belfast in 1965, is known for his powerful artwork that reflects themes of strength, defiance, and vulnerability. Growing up during “The Troubles,” his work captures the human experience, from working-class struggles to emotional depth. His female figures often serve as a form of self-portrait, symbolizing strength, determination, and inner struggles. Bradley’s depictions of men, especially Dockers, offer a nuanced view of masculinity and endurance, incorporating words like Trust, Honour, and Hope.
Having spent more time in Spain recently, the vibrant Mediterranean light and landscapes have inspired a new creative energy in his work. We’re grateful to Terry for donating his piece “Fireside” to our Silent Auction, which will be uniquely hand-embellished for the winning bidder.
